Privacy policy

Updated 4 October 2026

AskBabushka (askbabushka.com) helps people who have moved to Europe: to plan their first steps and to find a professional, a job or someone to hire. This page explains in plain words what data we receive about you, why, and what you can do about it. It is written under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

1. Who is responsible for your data

The data controller is the operator of the AskBabushka project, a private individual in Italy who is not registered as a business. For any question about your data, write to info@askbabushka.com.

2. What we receive and why

  • Signing in with Google. Your name, email address, profile photo and Google account ID. We never receive your Google password. We need these to create your account and recognise you when you sign in.
  • The first steps plan. Country and city, why you moved, where you are now, and the steps you have ticked. Without signing in, all of this stays in your browser; once you sign in, it is also kept in your account so that your plan follows you to any device. The answer “temporary protection” suggests you are probably from Ukraine: we use it only to build your plan. The plan's PDF is made on your device and is not sent to us.
  • Requests to professionals. The area, the city, your description of the task, a phone number if you give one, and PDF files. We attach your name and email address from your account ourselves. Only the professional you chose sees the request — or we do, if you ask us to find someone. Please do not write diagnoses, health details or information about children in a request.
  • Professional profiles. Once we have reviewed it, we publish the name or business name, the speciality, the city, the languages and the description, and for translators the language pairs and whether they offer certified translations. The phone number and tax number are never published: only we see them, to check the professional.
  • Jobs and applications. A job is published after we review it. An application — the message, a phone number if you give one, and your name and email from your account — is seen only by the employer; we do not read it.
  • Emails to us. If you write to info@askbabushka.com, we receive your address and your message so that we can reply.
  • Technical data. The site's host automatically records the IP address, the time of the request, the browser type and the page opened, to run and protect the site.

For the account, the plan, requests, profiles, jobs and applications, the legal basis is the contract: the service cannot work without this data (art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). For technical data and preventing abuse, it is our legitimate interest in keeping the site secure (art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). We do not sell data, show advertising or build advertising profiles.

3. Who else sees the data

The professional you wrote to and the employer you applied to. Visitors to the site see only published profiles and jobs. Our suppliers also store and transmit data on our behalf, as processors under art. 28 GDPR:

  • Supabase — the database and sign-in; data is stored in the European Union (Frankfurt).
  • Vercel Inc. (USA) — hosting of the site.
  • Zoho — the info@askbabushka.com mailbox, in its European data centre.
  • Telegram — short notifications to the operator about new profiles, requests, jobs and applications: only the profile name or the job title, never contact details or messages.

Signing in is handled by Google under its own policy (policies.google.com/privacy). Vercel, Supabase and Google are US companies: transfers to them are covered by the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission's standard contractual clauses. Telegram is outside the EU, which is why its notifications carry only what is meant to be published anyway.

4. Cookies and browser storage

We use only what the site needs to work, so we do not ask for consent:

  • Sign-in cookies (sb-…) — keep you signed in.
  • lang — the language you chose.
  • place, and a browser entry — the country and city you chose.
  • The plan, in browser storage — your answers and ticks.

There are no advertising or analytics cookies.

5. How long we keep data

The account, plan, profile, requests, jobs and applications are kept while your account exists. If you ask us to delete your account, we will delete it with all related data within one month. The host's technical logs are kept for a short time under Vercel's rules. Emails are kept as long as needed to reply and resolve the matter.

6. Your rights

At any time you can ask us to show you what data we hold about you, correct it, delete it together with your account, restrict its processing, give it to you in a portable format, or object to processing based on legitimate interest. Write to info@askbabushka.com and we will reply within one month. If you believe we are infringing your rights, you can complain to the Italian data protection authority (Garante per la protezione dei dati personali, garanteprivacy.it) or to the authority in your own EU country.

7. Children

The site is not meant for children under 14. Please do not put information about children — names, ages, health — in requests or profiles.

8. Changes

If we change this document, the new version will appear on this page with a new date.

This document is published in five languages. If the translations differ, the Italian version prevails.
